Do Youth Know how to Value Their Planet – 10 stories to celebrate
Draft 0 – please restrict to personal use and discussion withchris.macrae@yahoo.co.uk – all errors are his alone –advice welcomed
#1 Story Sir Fazle Abed (see global youth diary notes : 80th birthday, forthcoming book world record job creators)
Sir Fazle Abed and BRAC have just won the vote by Norman Macrae Foundation for the greatest youth jobs impact over the 40 years since Macrae’s Entrepreneurial Revolution http://erworld.tv in The Economist Dec 25 1976. BRAC is particularly relevant to progressing the search for the next 3 billion jobs whichNorman valued as revolving youthfully around
1 renewing planet – to go sustainably beyond the carbon value chain
2 renewing family, healthy community, actionable learning, everywhere - with preferential focus on poorest wherever left out by industrial revolution and empires
3 Superapps co-created by the net generation as first time all human beings livelihoods have been connected – lets leapfrog missing infrastructures caused by empire and industrial extraction’s inclusion of less than half the world’s peoples
Imagine an organisation and network of over 100000 people where everyone is a coach concerned with people building livelihoods and families developing. Out of nothing other than human love and courage, these coaches have built banking, education, food security, and family health systems by being motivated to end poverty. As well as human development they seize every opportunity to develop missing support networks and infrastructure. Their first community lab linked into one of the poorest 100 million person spaces- rural Bangladesh 1972 without electricity, communications or running water, devastated by a cyclone and a war of independence.
And these lifelong coaches soon discovered the most hungry learners of all were illiterate village mothers who were then culturally trapped in a system that locked them away in the village to breed as many boys as possible. BRAC’s first action learning network linked in mothers to becoming gthe heroic prcatictioners of oral rehydration – a cure for one quarter of all infants deaths in Bangladesh of 1970s. In pre-digital days BRAC went on to design the empassioned womens networks which redesigned dozens of markets’ value chains. Today BRAC is youth’s goto space for mobile superapps that leapfrog missing infrastructures – see brac’s building of the developing world’s largest cashless bank www.bkash.comachieved in little more than 4 years of brilliant coding and community interconnecting
In 2016, you don’t need to imagine such a meta-network – go visit BRAC age 45 or help linkin its supercoders. Explore the greatest collaborative uses of the internet and a world of excitement sustained by valuing youth’s conscious purpose of action learning. BRAC’s micoeconomic secret is about being the best lifelong partner whether you are the poorest person in the world or an organisation whose unique human resources could most help communities start living sustainability goals everywhere.
Is it possible that BRAC is first in world to have developed the trust to be a meta-hub of what Adam Smith meant by free markets? 2016 diary notes: Global Youth Community (GYC) http://gycommunity.com invites you to come to Glasgow w/c 20 November 2016 to test what BRAC’s most loyal partners think or to Beijing to advance WISE’s educational goals linked round thelearning for a living theme chosen around sir fazle abed as the world’s first educational laureate.
Story 2
Jim Kim is youth’s go to person for reality of social movements: it’s the hardest thing you will ever do, but what else is worth doing next?
His experience is movements overthrow old systems that are locked up at multiple points. Unless a movement has anticipated all of these locks and how to remove them it will likely fail. While movements must eventually scale up they are usually started by a small number of people (refer Margaret Meade) and pioneers often don’t get big rewads (other than being the origin). First followers also need to be courageous and energetic networkers. Before becoming head of World Bank in 2012 , Kim was joint leader of the Partners in Health www.pih.org meta-movement and youth exchange between Boston’s major medical schools , Haiti and other poor countries with lack of community health service. PIH empowers local community health workers to serve needs in the last mile in ways that global institutes don’t find it easy to imagine. Note how the space suit like uniform that the World Health Organisi=ation ordered proved very inefficient in hot humid battles with ebola.
When Kim first came to the world bank he spent a lot of effort inviting all young professionals to work out how to POP ( search Preferential Option Poor) old professional rules which had now become monopolies in spinning conflicts with sustaining the net generation. GYC loves to research how to help jim kim POP movements – contact us if you do to. (further search world bank tedx http://www.tedxwbg.com/ )
Story 3
Muhammad Yunus brings such joy to storytelling bottom up solutions to the race to end poverty that he won a nobel peace prize. It’s a pity that humans started the world of the new millennium with so few platforms for heroes who do good and so much is dominated by entertainment To see why note how his acceptance speech in stockholm raised the question who chooses what futures we 7.5 billion being make. We Create What We Want.
We wanted to go to the moon, so we went there.
We achieve what we want to achieve.
We accept that poverty is part of human destiny. It’s not!
We believe we can create a poverty-free world.
We need to invent ways to change our perspective.
We can reconfigure our world if we can reconfigure our mindset. .
Social business will be a new kind of business, making a difference in the world.
Human beings are a wonderful creation embodied with limitless human qualities and capabilities.
Entrepreneurs are not one-dimensional human beings, dedicated to maximizing profit.
They are multi-dimensional: political, emotional, social, spiritual, environmental.
The desire to do great things for the world can be a powerful driving force
Young people dream about creating a perfect world of their own.
Social business will give them a challenge to make a difference by using their creative talent.
Let us join hands to unleash our energy and creativity.
Collectively, we can create a poverty-free world.”
Sadly a systems review of the quarter century after world war 2 shows that those who powered over directions of the west’s richest nations unintentionally spun awful consequences as mass tv media took over society. This is why consciously choosing what to do is critical to you and yours – we are redefining human species for better worse around learning communications technologies and the internet’s integration with economies, societies and intergenerational sustainability
Ironically four years after making this Nobel speech Yunus own freedom platform Grameen Bank was taken away from him by political forces. How youth can actively support yunius going forward is a controversial issue which we have tried to track at The Journal of Social Business and New Economic Thinking. One practical way to help Yunus is to doublecheck you understand exact specifications of models like solar-a-bilion inspired by Yunus wriiten up by Nancy Wimmer. As early as 1996, a consortium around Yunus (including investor soros (see his story), telenor and the coding wizard iqbal quadir) helped bangladesh villagers be the first to experiment in partnerships where digital connections can end divides. So today, Bangladesh is a leading partnership lab for leapfrog mobile solutions (see BRAC) but Yunus no longer controls exponential impacts of any of the youth futures which had once so beautifully synchronised his dreams and future realities.
Story 4 HO the world – bottom up and openness
We classify Harrison Owen as an education revolutionary because his 1984 innovation of open space technology has offered exactly opposite opportunities of school life dominated by podium teachers and standardized examinations. It has also offered parents and communities a way out of societies being dominated by tv noise and the passive citizenship that spins. Why isn’t open space core to any teaching curriculum? Why not free every childs introduction to interactive entrepreneurial participation as she grows up. Why not join in www.thelearningweb.net Wherever schools today perpetuate the empire’s bullies ,gorls are the biggest losers. Further reference:
Hi-trust girl empowerment values open space interventions needed wherever systems are trapping people in poverty or other risks to hi-trust community -and so family degredation.
HO’s innovation of the people’s simplest tool for system transformation in 1984 came quote late in life – approximately aged 50. He has since made up for this with the most one of the world’s most collaborative alumni networks -they have hosted over 300000 open spaces on almost every human matter under the sun. He’s dedicated his final years to seeing OST becomes a vibrant heritage in China. Note one half of the world’s population live on 1% of the planet situated within 3000 miles of Beijing.
Hopefully special characteristic of Chinese peoples will enjoy hosting the great presence needed to facilitate what sorts of community apps up to 5000 people are freed to co-create. Some people call open space unconferencing, and the mobile youth generation can design in its instrumental impact on hackathons.
Open space with its minimalist rulebook is on the one hand simple to facilitate if everyone is curious to try it. On the other hand, a grandmaster in presence is needed when the space opens up on people whom the second before had been at war with each other, or totally demoralized by being trapped in a broken system. There is a branch of open space devoted to Practice of Peace. See Owen’s booklet of the same name where Harrison’s discusses the system transformation goal of open space to take people who are all trapped by the same system failure beyond to a system in which they are all free to celebrate each other skills and joy of sustaining positive change. Open Space has natural interfaces with mapping tools that mediators of the world’s largest boardrooms use – see eg Structural Visual Thinking by John Caswell Grouppartners.net.
Story 5 Taddy Blecher –from Mandela extranet to nearly free university alumni
If your family is going to sacrifice everything for your schooling it can in best cases create a taddy blecher who even in his 40s looks like a supersmart harry potter ready for his next dose of actionable learning. But this assumes the lessons will help you do something in life. Back in 1999, Taddy founded the nearly free university for disadvantaged black youth in s.africa. Intriguingly he prioritised 4 courses seldom taught before:
Maharishi self-confidence
Entrepreneurial literacy
Financial literacy
coding
He attracted extraordinary partners including Richard Branson Entrepreneurship curriculum and Google Africa for coding curriculum. Overall Mandela lent his name establishing the Nelson Mandela extranet. Today Taddy has graduated 15000 students almost all doing great jobs. A group of this alumni are working hard to develop 7thgrade versions of the missing curricula. That is the modal age for children to leave South Africa schools. Taddy’s partners are also developing apprenticeship hubs for youth who feel vocationally not academically energized= and upgrading small medium Enterprises
Lifelong learning capacity.
Story 6
Global Youth community (aka Youth4Empowerment (Y4E)) is an association of under 30s who interview the coders and owners of the greatest leapfrogging models - ask them whats next, are they looking for new coders, what training is needed. We have identified and contacted several of the greatest pro-youth apps designers. In this search, Y4E is supported by various elders including broadway film studio soundtrack and the cable tv co-production of emerald-planet and jobenomics. Elders4Empowerment tend to be alumni of universities designed round startups. This is a different graduation pathway to universities obsessed with theie paper certificate stranglehold over youth.
In another leap towards Entreperenurial Revolution, some of Y4E’s most valued mentors have been hosting friendships between chinese and silicon valley youth
Story 7 Jack Ma
At a recent education summit in WashingtonDC hosted by the economics forum Brookings, the chief of staff to the UN envoy on education said: are we thinking big enough? Whats education’s equivalent of Jack Ma> In China, Ma’s ali baba gave back markets to hundreds of thousands of SMEs (small medium enterprises) that Walmart type megastores assumed they were locking into brick based malls. Jack Ma may be controversial , but he has accelerated the whole arrival of the internet in china in ways west coast internet designers have completely misses. He is an self-determined educator in soul and youth language translator at heart. He has issued a 100 million job creation challenge. Do western youth have anyone like him to linkin?
Story 8
www inventor Tom Bernes Lee: the worldwide web as I envisaged it, we have no seen it yet, human potential is so much larger. These days Berners Lee works at MIT – the university designed to create more startups than any other. Recently the MIT dean said this wasn’t enough for her and is taking secondment to develop a new kind of training college with no theoretical exams
Humanity has reached that tipping point in future history where we are spending 1000 times more on Learning Communications Technologies than 1946. Wherever the 2010s has become the decade defined by jobs and sustainability crises – we the web’s increasing borderless peoples and our diversity of hi-trust cultures need transparency movements questioning: why are old capitalism’s biggest investment forces failing to integrate youth’s sustainability goals. Have grandparents and parents of the net generation become blinded to how educators are incentivised to ensure the kids get standard scores not maximise their curiosity. Friends of Glbal Youth may wish to see Pope Francis’ 2014 request at the European Union in Strasbourg for an urgent review of this challenge
Story 9
George Soros came to fame and made his first billions by breaking the currency markets. He has since pursued a Robin Hood vision. Challenging both over-government and under-social, he is the leading billanthropist of exponentially valuing bottom up and open . He began this journey in 78 as one of the first to sponsor African youth in days of Apartheid; he has relentlessly backed Gorbachev as their vision jointly formed Open Society networks. By 1996 Soros was the founding sponsor of Grameen’s mobile empowerment of village mothers ; and from then on his major foci have included celebrating partners in health of kim and farmer and BRAC of sir fazle abed. His latest movement ineteconomics calls for a fundamental rethinking of economics from the ground up.
